“The task of repentance grounds us in the work of serving our neighbors, not ourselves.”
- Debra Dean Murphy
In many Western Christian traditions, today is observed as Ash Wednesday. It is the first day of Lent and occurs forty days before Easter. Ash Wednesday gets its name from the practice of placing ashes on the foreheads of the faithful as a sign of repentance. For more information, consider http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ash_Wednesday
